I hear what everyone here is saying, but I can't help but think that some of the system specs quoted are to low. I have very few problems and use vista ultimate. I have 4gb memory at 800mHz, 640mb video card, although a good 512mb card gives good performance. Also a core 2 duo 3 gHz processor, and again you don't have to go that fast.

I now shudder to go back to FS9 as I am far happier with FSX. It's a pity that it appears that FSNavigator won't be released for FSX, but I am getting more confident with FS Commander. Maybe an issue might be 3rd party scenery, although I have plenty of photoreal scenery installed for NZ and it has little impact on my system.

I'm going to partially hijack this thread...and yea I know, I should'nt use the "h" word in an aviation setting lol!

I've decided to completely remove FSX and go back to fs9.

My system:

Dell XPS400 Dual Core 2.6 ghz sys
eVGA 7950GT 512 PCIe card
2 Gig Ram
XP Home

I just can't get FSX to run smooth on my system. Now sure I can turn all the sliders down to less than half, but who wants to fly in a blurry, no AI, no Autogen world? Not me.

So, I'm in the process of installing FS9, and probably purchaseing some good Mesh and Terrain, plus some Envrionmental packages to spruce things up. Hell I swear I can get some good payware cheaper than a new Vid card, processor and mem!

The only downfall is, I know that someday I'll have to break down and get a new sys or upgrade mine before FS11 comes out :-(

To you all , have you got the new updates ie,
fsx_sp1 and fsx_sp2.
You dont have to have the new Acceleration add on to have SP2 just download it from microsoft, only thing is you dont get the planes.

Ken,
There are some very good addons for FS9 you are on the right track if you get the Envrionmental packs.

I am like Paul i to have a very good system to run FSX on.
I feel sorry for you all out there who cant run it as it should be run.
i have ..NVIDIA 768MB GeForce 8800GTX
800MHZ CORSAIR RAM 2GB
22INCH MONITOR
INTEL CORE 2 EXTREME X6800 [2 2.93GHZ] 1066MHZ
ASUS STRIKER EXTREME MOTHERBOARD
XP HOME
That will give you an idea of what you need to run FSX.
I get 35-50fps if i stay away from the citys.
I have also got
UT-fsx Canada
UT-fsx usa
GEX-USA/CAN
ST[LANDCLASS for North America

I will put up the Web Sites were you can have a look.
