I'm only into this new sim less than an hour and I have to warn anyone wanting to get it that the learning curve is huge. I figured this would be the case since its been 16 years between versions, but not to the extent that I have found so far. That's certainly no reason to avoid purchasing it, just know that you'll probably be spending a lot of time re-learning a completely new simulator. You can literally start in a cockpit "cold and dark" and run through the entire startup checklist (the Boeing 747-800 is three printed pages long). There is also an option to have your virtual co-pilot accomplish these tasks, as well as handling all of the ATC communications, which is how I have been using the sim so far. When I have a good chunk of time, probably this weekend, I plan on trying out running the checklist myself during a full flight. More pictures to follow!

I am onboard with this. It will take a bit of time to get familiar with.
I have to learn what all of my H.O.T.A.S X52 buttons and switches do, but I see that I can assign the buttons and switches, or else learn the defaults.

edited by: SPA031, Aug 19, 2020 - 12:01 PM

Just wondering if there are advantages or disadvantages to running the FS2020 in steam.

Morning Paul,
Advantages or disadvantages in what regard?
I run FSX: Steam Edition and it really is no different than the boxed version. I have addon software purchased outside of Steam as well as items purchased through Steam that all work flawlessly. One thing I have not done is to physically look at the folder and file structure for FS2020. Of course, we'll probably be waiting for a while to see how third party addon software melds with this new sim. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted!

I'm busy with my copilot running through checklists and doing a pre-flight on the Cessna 172 (well equipped with the Garmin G1000 avionics suite I might add) and here comes my ramp agent to assist with pushback. The AI humans are fully animated by the way.

Spent some time tonight familiarizing myself with the Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner. What an amazing aircraft! Took off from Miami International and climbed out over the Gulf of Mexico with real world weather and live real world air traffic enabled. Enjoyed the sunset and now feel like I need a drink with some pineapple and rum in it!
