It is with much sadness that as from today i no longer have FSX on my computer.
And the way things are going i may never put it back on,it takes 20min to load up and start flying.
Haveing read the forams it could be another year before a decent system comes out to run it.
Thank god for FS9 at least that still works.
Dave :-x

Dave:
I'm sorry to hear this, but I understand. We who have FSX are all having some degree of trouble with it...depending on your system. It is really ment to run with 64 bit; DX10, and VISTA...and nobody has that yet.
Keep flying the old reliable FS9...and have fun.

I got my laptop to run FSX a lot better by installing 2 Gigabytes of memory in it at a cost of $300. This Toshiba portable only has a 64 Gigabyte nVidia card in it so there are limitations on what I can do with FSX. For instance, I have to use low resolution settings in order to get almost 10 frames per second; which is considered the minimum for smooth screen action.
Dave, I have been looking at the top of the line HP which now sells here for $899. But, that is without a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc. You would have to buy those or use your old ones. The HP is not Vista ready out of the box, however. That would require a hardware upgrade.
It looks like Microsoft is in league with the hardware manufacturers so we all would need to buy new computers in order to take advantage of the latest features that Microsoft has to offer. This is the high cost of being on the bleeding edge of technology.

Hi Dave; I feel the same way you do about FSX at this point. Downloaded the demo got 35-40 fps. THEN I set the sliders foward and bam 8-12 fps. I think when FS2000 came out I had a lower end machine. Played the catch-up game...sound card..video card...cpu chip..ram...Whoa!!!! what am I doing$$$$$$$. Going to wait at least 6 m0s. to see where the tech./hardware goes.Until then enjoy FS9!! Jim

Dave,
I know exactly what you are going through.
After adding 512 MB of RAM to my 1G of RAM, the loading time of the sim has pretty much reduced to half. I think total 2GB of RAM would help even more.
I hate flying FSX in big cities but gotta tell you I love flying small planes in urban areas in low altitude.
Resizing the autogen, clouds, trees, runways, taxiways, etc textures has helped me a lot. It has given me extra 6-9 frames per second. If you have not done it, I strongly recommend you doing that.
So when you sending me that super computer?
Naresh
