I purchased the Professional version of P3D which includes the developer tools for it. I do not know how to develop stuff for P3D yet but that was on my wish list.

edited by: SPA031, Nov 18, 2019 - 03:32 PM

Does buying the academic version require proof of being a student? If not, that would put P3D in my price range... An update to my FSX crashes: Stopped using FSrealWX while flying and it hasn't crashed since. I do use it to load the weather before flying, but then close it down.

No...they don't require that - in fact I bought two academic licenses (one for my development computer) as their development license was also out of my price range. Again - if you look at most p3d videos on youtube, you'll see the academic logo in the upper right corner. There are a number of forum threads on other sites regarding the academic licensing of p3d.

May I cautiously arouse your curiosity towards Flightgear?
Program free, scenery free, aircraft free, lively development discussions, quite a few well developed planes with realistic FDM and design, multiplayer function with atc-trainings at the weekends.
Disadvantages for SPA-pilots: adventure packs don't work. Limited choice of aircraft. Scenery development different: Many very well developed airports, cities and regions, others are very basic. If you want an idea of the prettier regions, look at my fotos.
As far as I can see these Flightgear planes are suitable for SPA purpose: B1900d, Bombardier Q200, Q300 and Q400, Boeing 737, 777 and 747, Airbus A320, Cessna 172, 182, 337 Skymaster, DHC2 Beaver wheels and amphibian, DHC6 Twin Otter wheels and amphibian, Piper PA28 Warrior, Pilatus PC6 Turbo Porter.
Not Cessna 208, DHC3.
Very well developed are also Concorde and Space Shuttle ...

Paul,
I run FSX Steam Edition and I've never encountered any crashes like you have been experiencing with your boxed version. I moved to Steam Edition specifically because I could not get the boxed version I had to install on my new system. Steam has it right now for $24.99.
I did read some reviews regarding difficulties installing addon aircraft and scenery, but I have also not experienced any of this and do not have any problems with any addons. Of course, YMMV...
If you have a couple of spare bucks, give it a shot.

I have been hearing good things about the steam version and have put it on my wishlist. Christmas is coming up!! I've been warned about the immense downloads required for the steam version, but in January, I get a new internet line laid with 100MB so I think thats already taken care of. Also have P3D on my wishlist... like I said, Christmas is coming up and I have 6 kids who want to make me happy I guess I just need some patience until the turn of the year then I think things should start working out. Oswald: I downloaded Flightgear and will have a look at it on the weekend when I get a few hours with nothing to do! Thankyou all kindly for your advice and opinions!
