FS9 Failures Problem

On behalf of Jim:

Not a stupid question. They say that there are NO stupid questions, just stupid answers. ha

It is hard to say exactly what the situation is but it seems to me it is just random. I seldom re-fly any flights so chances are that the flights in question are new ones.

I am convinced that the problem is FS9 itself, and that I will just have to live with it for now. Hopefully, I can afford (and find) a new computer that will run FSX.

If good old Microsoft would have a decent customer service I might be able to get this all sorted out, but so far no such luck. My biggest hope was in finding a simmer that could help me.

I have been having better luck lately so maybe the problem will go away for awhile.

Thanks for all your inputs and suggestions. And thanks to others also.

Regards...........Jim k5yrf

If you are convinced that the problem is caused by the FS9 software and not your own computer, then you can always reinstall FS9.

First run a memory test program, defrag your hard drive, run anti-spy software, scan for viruses and clean up those orphan registry entries.

One program I use often is CCleaner. You can download it free from the internet.

Robert.......I have done all of those things, some several times, but the one thing I haven't messed with is the registry. Does CCleaner work on the registry? So many people have warned me about doing anything with the registry so I avoid that (so far). Jim

I think Yeti is right. If you do not turn on the generators, then your systems are entirely dependent on the batteries. If your batteries run down enough, you will have an electrical system failure. Your engines will continue to run if they are running, however. I heard this happened for real once to a flight that was over Canada. There is a slipstream driven generator that pops down from the bottom of the aircraft when needed and it provides enough electrical energy to power the necessary emergency systems. So, they made a safe emergency landing.

CCleaner has a registry cleaner. I have used it many times without ill effect on Windows XP. I do not know if CCleaner works on Vista.

I do suggest that you take the registry backup option just in case. Then, you can always restore your previous registry if you suspect that something went wrong. I have never needed to restore my previous registry entries, however.

You do not want to mess around with your registry using a registry editor unless you really know what you are doing.

Here is a link to Windows registry information for advanced users: <a href="support.microsoft.com/kb/256986" target="_blank">click here

Here is what Microsoft has to say about downloading registry cleaners:

Are registry cleaners necessary?

The Windows&#8204; registry is a database that lists all of the configuration settings that determine how Windows looks and behaves. Sometimes, settings that are no longer needed will remain in the registry in case they are ever needed again. There's nothing unusual about this, and this data, while unused, is small in size.

Some products available for free on the Internet suggest the registry needs regular maintenance or cleaning. Occasionally, a registry setting can become corrupt but, in general, the registry is self-sufficient. If you do decide to install a registry cleaner, be sure to research the product and only download and install programs from software publishers that you trust.

Warnings
Some programs available for free on the Internet might contain spyware, adware, or viruses. Only download and install programs from software publishers that you trust. Even if you trust the website you download the program from, you need to also trust the publisher of the program. For more information, see When to trust a software publisher.

We strongly recommend that you only change values in the registry that you understand or have been instructed to change by a source you trust, and that you back up the registry before making any changes.
