New Multiplayer Flight Coming Soon & FlightGear Multiplayer Addon

Pilots,

Larry has tentatively set the date and time for an upcoming multiplayer flight. He figures it will be a 2-day event (likely 1 to 2 hours each day). The flights start on Thursday, July 16. The flight time will be around the same time as in the past (around 1800 UTC time).

Additionally, I've been working with Oswald - our first FlightGear pilot, on testing an addon and server that will allow FlightGear pilots to join in our MP flights. The addon is called Swift and utilizes another network server that is free to use but requires signing up for an account.

I hope to experiment further with this addon and test if it's possible to combine both JoinFS and Swift to see both FG and FSX/P3d/Xplane pilots if those pilots are only using (or able to use) just one of those connection features. If a combined method is possible, then p3d/fsx/xplane pilots would have the option to see any FG pilots if they choose to install the addon. In addition to testing the combined system for conflicts and resource use ie. framerate hit, there will be the need to "turn off" individual pilots in one of the two systems so that those pilots aren't injected twice into your simulator.

As you can see, I still have some testing to do to see how much of this is possible. I will also be creating a tutorial (both written and video) for pilots wishing to install the new feature when I finally settle on the best process. The Swift addon is considerably more complex than JoinFS, so I recommend pilots wait until I post the install instructions.

Those of us who flew the Caribbean Multiplayer Flight earlier this year had a great time, and it will be even more fun if we can include some FlightGear pilots in the fun and actually see their planes too.

Good luck Bill. I haven't had that yet, but know folks who have and are glad they did. Might require modified flight deck for a while.

Good luck with your knee replacement surgery Bill. I had mine in Nov. 2016. It's tough for a few weeks, but, in the end, you'll be glad you did it.

Hey Pilots,

I want to apologize for not getting swift information out earlier for those that might want to try connecting with FlightGear pilots. That's ok too, we'll still be flying as scheduled for our first day of expected 2-day multiplayer flight and hope to see any pilots join in to fly with us or just say hello on Teamspeak if you see us there on the main page Teamspeak area.

I have over 30 pictures for a tutorial on swift setup for those brave souls who want to try to bring FlightGear pilots into your simulator, and I'll help along the way if possible. I hope to get the pictorial tutorial posted tomorrow so those interested might have some additional guidance. If you don't wish to complicate things, please join us with your JoinFS for P3d/FSX connections where most of us will be visible, and all of us should expect to communicate on our posted Teamspeak channel.
