Wait! Version P3D V5 is coming!

Thanks for the information. I try to stay current with new upgrades. This is getting more interesting with each new upgrade.

P3Dv5 is due out next week and I'm pretty sure you will have to buy it again. The biggest change I've heard is it's based on DirectX 12 rendering engine. I'm not sure if that will require me, since I'm on 4.5 now, to buy all new addons. Also now we have MS2020 on the horizon. A nice confusing time in Flight Simulating right now since we have options.

Which way do we go?

I'm probably in wait mode to see where both P3Dv5 and MSFS2020 go and then make a decision. Heck I may do both. I'm 69 and getting old. What's the saying,"Make hay while the sun is shinning".

edited by: bill721, Apr 10, 2020 - 09:12 AM

Looks like I'm in the same mode Bill. Been doing a bit of reading and it's, at least at this point, heading me toward P3D5. It appears that some of the Beta testers used ORBX stuff and it looks pretty good. I hope REX and some others are compatible too so we can have a good WX engine as it appears that P3D5 lacks a real time engine of it's own.

Took about a year for me to jump on the 64 bit P3D. Think I'll wait out a service upgrade or two before I pull the trigger. Unless LM offers some kind of price break for early purchasers, don't hold your breath, I'll let the "rabbits" finish the open BETA phase before I commit.

The 2020?? is attractive but after the MS Flight debacle I'm gonna see how pay to play and 3rd party offerings go.If it turns into a high priced XBOX video game I'm out.

I agree with you. I am upgraded to the latest release of P3D now and will wait for a couple of upgrades to P3D v5. Besides, they said that a new version of P3D means that a new license is required to be purchased.

edited by: SPA031, Apr 10, 2020 - 12:27 PM

Interesting information guys..thanks for the details of this. Argh...another license purchase for P3D? That might be a game-stopper for me, even with my current version of P3dv4.???

I certainly will wait to try FS2020 first. Then I'll have to see what way the major 3rd party developers go, versatility of multiplayer, etc.

I'm really getting tired of paying to fill another aircraft hangar again. I still haven't restored my P3D to the wonderful models I had available in FSX.

I'm finally going to have to make a decision of one over all other options and be done with this.
