Back in Action.....FINALLY

Good Morning,

It only took a little over three weeks, but I'm finally back to flying on my original Prepar3Dv4.5 Professional. My P3D3v4.5 became very unstable after my computer did a reboot after a power surge in our neighborhood. As luck would have it, I was doing the HotFix update at the time and when I got the computer rebooted P3D was totally screwed up and so was my Registry in WIN10.

I am now an official "expert" on discovering fixes, shortcuts and minor hacks related to the WIN10 registry, recovering and reinstalling/re-configuring ORBX and all of my payware airplanes and other scenery.(sic)

Think I'll skip the upgrade to P3Dv5 until they get thru two or three hotfixes and release 5.1 and still more hotfixes. Took a lot of time and work to get the system restored and stable, but I'm very happy with the result and very glad to be back in the SPA skies.

Too bad that happened. At least you had the gumption to get it back and running normal again. I would have just reinstalled from a backup. I find Acronis to be a handy tool for that. What I do with Acronis is to create a binary copy of my boot drive on a SSD. Boy is that easy!

Wish I'd thought of that setup. Would have saved me untold hours and frustration. TX for the info.

Glad you got it resolved. Have you ever thought about making a backup image of your drive? I do one about every 15 days so I always have an image I can reload. I use Macrium Reflect. It's free for home use and it's saved me a lot of work when stuff happens. Here's the link <a href="www.macrium.com/reflectfree">www.macrium.com/reflectfr

Welcome back Smitty, we missed you. Four of those days our site was down anyway due to technical problems with our database so you couldn't have flown then regardless. That's unusual for our site to be down for so long.

Like Bill, I also use Macrium, but I'm terrible at backing up my system so I usually just reinstall everything from scratch. Not sure I'll be doing that if I keep P3d, FSX and FS2020 on the system when that finally is released. I'm sure not going to keep reinstalling 3 different simulators whenever I have a problem. I'll have to get better at backups, but I spend enough time backing up our site data "regularly" that I really don't want to spend all of my time making backups of all my stuff.

Again, welcome back!

Nice pics of Valdez harbor Smitty!

Is that a special scenery package or just Orbx global/vector?
