Evening Everyone,
Just like the title says, I dropped the $200 plus tax on the Aviator edition of the newest installment of flight simulator. For those around that bought into 2020 when it came out, you should remember how bad that launch was. This release was thousands of times worse. For the first 34 or so hours after the release, the program simply did not work. After my installation, I was stuck in a queue just to be able to use the new simulator - FOR 16 HOURS! After finally getting in, there were constant crashes and the lag was so bad I was getting roughly 8 to 10 FPS. Fast forward to today, and this has to be the buggiest "game" I've ever purchased. I've used the sim on my fiber connection at home, which is at 1GB as well as at work with an even faster network and the lagging and stuttering makes this thing unusable. Edited to add that the results were the same on both PC and XBox.
For the record, here is what I am running:
13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900HX at 5.4GHz
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU 8.0GB
64GB Ram
Windows 11 Pro
It seems like every time you look away (say, out the window of the aircraft) and then look back (toward the flight deck) the program has to re-draw all of the content from the cloud. If you didn't know, this release is almost all streaming, from the aircraft to the scenery to everything in between. All of the gauges, buttons, switches etc. are all redownloaded and re-drawn every single time you move, look away, or start the game. Taxiing is almost impossible due to the stuttering and the lagging from the program trying to download needed content at a continuous rate and so far, I've only had luck getting one aircraft to actually take off, fly and land. I've also tried every display setting from high end to low end and it makes no difference.
The scenery is fantastic and the aircraft look amazing. Apart from that, 0/10 - would not recommend. Save your money, stick with what you have now and if you want to upgrade, wait for MS and ASOBO to get it together and get this simulator where it should have been on day one (if its anything like 2020, estimate 2+ years for most of the bugs to be worked out).
Happy Flying!

Thanks Eric!
Wow - that's too bad, because, as usual, we had such high expectations for this new simulator. Of course, I was skeptical enough to hold off on the purchase until I could see some of the reviews come in.
It kind of makes me appreciate MS2020 for as good as it currently is.

I was looking to see if they had MSFS on a disk, which they do. I read a few pages of the reviews for MSFS 2024 not good. I guess we`ll have to wait a year or so just like Fltsim 2020.

Reviews on X-Box marketplace are currently at 1.8/5 stars. Steam reviews show "mostly negative" with over 5,000 reviews (2.3/5 starts). I cannot recommend putting any money into this debacle strongly enough. At least when I purchased 2020, it worked for the most part. 2024 just simply does not work at all.

Eric, Thanks for the heads up. I'm just starting to build up a new sim and was thinking I'd just jump to 2024. Apparently, I'd be better off to start out with 2020 and wait for 2024 to mature.

Eric,
The MSFS forum says that the streaming problem has been resolved. Have you tried it recently, and can you give us updates.
Thanks,
John
