Hah Jim, you are right about Aden (sorry about that). I'll edit that to a modern flight route. Yes - that was from a book diagram and one I missed when checking some of them against current charts.
As for the longer flights, you should do as I suggested and break the flight into segments, just use the same flight number for all the segments you break that 4-hour flight into. Both flights AP63 and AP65 are longer flights, so if I break AP63 into 4 segments, just use flight number AP63 for each of your segments. The route information can still show the actual route and stops that you flew.
My reason for these longer flights was twofold. First, the last Adventure seemed too short because the flights were so short. Second, I wanted pilots to have a chance to fly the actual flights that these pilots flew. This is especially true for the Northwest flight where you can set your weather so as to encounter severe thunderstorm over lake Michigan. I thing it might make for some exciting flying - especially for those who opt to fly the vintage aircraft actually flown during these flights.
Regardless, it will give you an opportunity to do some rudimentary flight planning. Break open those flight charts and figure out how long you want to fly for the day. If your plane cruises at 200 MPH, then find out how many VOR hops along the given route brings you to around 200 miles from your origin and you should have about a 1 hour flight - plus the additional prep, takeoff and landing time.
As for the AP61 Aden issue, I might suggest V611 from KABQ to KSAF (ABQ - NODME - NELGE - LIYIR - SAF). This looks approximately like the old standard flight path depicted in the book. I'll replace 'ADEN' with this one to avoid further confusion.
Alternatively, if your plane is equipped with two nav radios, you can find the old ADEN intersection by tuning nav1 into ABQ and flying out on the 10 with nav2 tuned into SAF VOR and set to the 240 radial. As you track outbound on ABQ 10 you'll see your nav2 needle begin to move until it's centered. Provided nav2 is set to SAF and the 240 radial, when the nav2 needle is centered, you're crossing the 240 radial and have reached ADEN. At this point select Nav2 as your autopilot source or change nav1 to the nav 2 settings so your plane begins to track the SAF 240 radial.
Thanks,
John

edited by: jer029, Nov 07, 2016 - 04:10 PM

Thanks guys,
Jim, I think, even using default fsx weather, you can set storms for select weather stations (like on the Wisconsin side of Lake Michigan). Then as you fly across the lake you will run into the thunderstorms (I think). I haven't tried yet, and will probably be trying to configure it using my AS Next weather.
The altitude adjustments were taken from the book (and I was surprised at how low those big 4-engine planes would fly routinely). Could you imagine sitting by the lake along the Michigan shoreline watching the storm roll in and have that huge plane fly overhead at 3500 feet heading out into the lake - and into the storm?
