New Adventure Packs Section

Pilots,

I'm pleased to introduce a new section I've been working on called Adventure Packs. These are 3-packs of mission-based flights that include their own scenery and effect downloads. These are not the large scenery library downloads of orbx or RTMM, just small scenery files to add at the top of your existing scenery that can be removed after the 3 adventure flights are completed. These have been tested in FSX-Orbx and plain FSX. For other sims I'm not sure how fsx-designed scenery works there. This first pack also only uses standard FSX, and perhaps fsx acceleration/sp-2 library objects that should be compatible with most fsx sims in use.

I will be releasing them as I complete them and get them installed. The first one (Adventure Pack SPA1) is available in the downloads and has a direct link located in the new Adventure Packs page located under Special Operations from the main menu.

As always, these flights are optional for pilots, and should be reported using the PIREP reporting process of your choice. When completing your PIREPs for these flights, the origin and dest airports are sometimes variable and not too important. Most important though is to get the flight number correctly entered or your name will not appear in the awards area for completing that adventure pack.

Also - if there are any questions or problems let me know.

For you multi-player enthusiasts, these make really great multi-player flights.

Enjoy,

John,
I love the idea. I am trying the first adventure now (AP11). I have scoured all along the direct flight path and can't find anything. I understand that they landed somewhere after half-way and on a flat spot, near water. I need some clues. Is the water a lake or the ocean? About how far from the direct flightpath? I installed the scenery as instructed and hope that it is working, otherwise I will be searching in vain.

Thanks

Hello Bill,

Sorry you're having problems. Here's some help:

First make sure you have things loaded correctly:

1. Download the zip file
<img src="Bush-Operations/AdventurePacks/spa1.jpg" width="516" height="295">

2. Unzip the file to first folder SPA1

<img src="Bush-Operations/AdventurePacks/spa2.jpg" alt="" width="520" height="297">

3. Open the inner most spa1 folder showing the scenery and texture folders and readme file. Move the SPA1_Controller.fx into your FSX's "effects" folder as shown:

<img src="Bush-Operations/AdventurePacks/spa3.jpg" alt="" width="536" height="302">

4.The inner-most SPA1 folder is the one you want to install into FSX scenery area as follows. After open scenery library.

<img src="Bush-Operations/AdventurePacks/spa4.jpg" alt="" width="877" height="463">

5. Click on "Add Area" button and then use dialog to find the inner most SPA1 folder. Here you see I've opened the outer SPA1 file and have selected the inner SPA1 folder containing the scenery and texture folders. You'll know you have the right folder because when you click on it in the upper part of the window it will appear in the lower part of the window next to "Directory" and the OK button. At this point - if you see what the picture shows, you can click the OK button.

<img src="Bush-Operations/AdventurePacks/spa5.jpg" alt="" width="689" height="385">

6. After the ok button you will see the following picture. Due to an fSX bug, you need to just click in the empty area where I wrote "Click Here" so that FSX can continue loading the scenery.

<img src="Bush-Operations/AdventurePacks/spa6.jpg" alt="" width="743" height="702">

7. Now your scenery should be loaded and you should see it at the top of your scenery library and it should be checked "enabled". Now hit the ok button to close the scenery library.

Lastly,

Look in the general area of Hollis (HYL) for the wreck site. Hint: look for a column of black smoke <img src="tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif" alt="wink">.

This scenery file places existing library objects from default FSX library and uses the default textures from the library object. There are no additional textures added.

I don't think I made any changes since posting the original forum entry. I just downloaded the zip file yesterday when I made the pictorial help response above. The contents of the spa1.zip unzipped is the shell folder (spa1) containing the scenery folder inside (spa1) and inside that is the four items you've mentioned two folders (scenery and texture) and two files readme and spa1_controller. The texture folder is empty.

I installed the scenery as shown in the help response above on a new FSX install (I bought a new system for my regular laptop and testing site) as I made those pictures. I then flew to the first 'scene'. No problems that I know of. <img src="tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif" alt="smile">
