:chat: I would like to start a discussion on game servers.
Multi player sessions are an important activity for our virtual airline. Right now we are experimenting to find the best applications that will facilitate our multi player sessions. Our last multi player session last Saturday was not a complete success because we had problems finding a host that everyone could connect to. We also tried Teamspeak for the first time.
The link to Teamspeak is: www.goteamspeak.com/
I think Teamspeak is a great idea. My opinion about it is that we will need to find a dedicated Teamspeak server. There are several reasons for this. For instance:
1. I have a slow speed DSL connection. This means that the bandwidth traffic to and from my PC will be severely limited. This makes my PC a bad option.
2. My PC has a dynamic IP address. This means that my IP address changes every time I power up my PC. This is bad because my latest PC IP address would have to be broadcast all over the Internet every time someone wanted to use it for Teamspeak.
3. My PC is old. I have a Dell 8100. This is not exactly the best PC for hosting multi player sessions. The last time I was in a multi player session, the CPU was running at 100%.
I could go on.
If you look at the Teamspeak web site, you will see that there are solutions. They have a page that lists dozens of dedicated Teamspeak server providers that we can subscribe to. They either charge by the month and/or by the number of concurrent users. Also, the connection will always be the same. This way anyone in St. Paul Airlines could connect to the Teamspeak server at any time and voice chat with any other member or members.
So, lets start a discussion on this subject and hear what our other members have to say. Any suggestions are welcome.
