It is pretty much like Google Earth except, you can view it in your Internet Explorer, sorry no 3D objects in firefox. Google Earth is a separate independent application, MS Virtual Earth is an add-on to Internet Explorer.
Google has Google Map for internet browsers but it lacks 3D objects. Google Earth has 3D objects too.
Other than that, there is no difference. Sorry, I do not use MS Internet Explorer that much. So far, it is free.
