Microsoft takes on Google with new Virtual Earth

One-upping Google on several fronts--including using real photographs of buildings--Microsoft has released Virtual Earth, a competitor to Google Earth that works with its Live Local service. CNET's Rafe Needleman gives a preview and compares the two platforms.

Too bad it's not free heh ?

It is pretty much like Google Earth except, you can view it in your Internet Explorer, sorry no 3D objects in firefox. Google Earth is a separate independent application, MS Virtual Earth is an add-on to Internet Explorer.

Google has Google Map for internet browsers but it lacks 3D objects. Google Earth has 3D objects too.

Other than that, there is no difference. Sorry, I do not use MS Internet Explorer that much. So far, it is free.
