I have the Quest Kodiak. Like I've said in other posts, the way the Kodiak drops like a stone if you don't keep the speed up makes it unsuitable for very short or difficult runways. By the time the reverse thrust kicks in you may be out of runway. The Beaver, although no reverse thrust, can almost float to the ground at about 60 mph.

Also, either the Kodiak or the Otter doesn't have water rudders so it won't turn very easily - I don't remember for sure which one had the steering issue once on the water.

Otherwise, I prefer the Kodiak because it's certainly faster than the Beaver and can carry more weight I believe.

edited by: jer029, Sep 02, 2019 - 03:32 PM

I have had the Quest Kodiak for a number of years. The power is OK, the reversible prop, tricycle gear, payload and avionics are very good. However the slow speed stall characteristics are, as John points out, simply terrible. This is remarkable, as one of the plane's selling points is its compound wing, which is supposed to have an excellent low speed stall characteristic. I've experienced several "hull losses" with the Kodiak, most notably on approach to the Hummingbird Ridge basecamp in Econ Mode. I haven't tried the C-185, although I've been a passenger in several bush flights in that aircraft.

So, for the meanwhile, I'll stick with the Beaver, or possibly the Otter.

Thanks for the information about the Kodiak. I will now be considering the <a href="

Here is a link to the Twin Otter --> Click here

Check out my latest screenshot of the Twin Otter at the dock in Monterey Harbor.

Just for the few Flightgear pilots: DHC 2 Beaver works fine as amphibian, and so does the Twin Otter.

I haven't tried: DC-3 Amphibius, Piper J-3 Cub or PA-18 Super Cub (Amphibian and Float) and of course the Cessna 172,

Welcome back, Yoland!

I got the Twin Otter and am happy with it so far. It includes some other paint files for it so maybe we could do a St. Paul Airlines repaint?

I will try a cross country flight soon to see if the autopilot works.

I posted some images of the Twin Otter for you to see here.
