Amelia's flight around the world

In last Sunday's newspaper, there was a full-page article about the renewed interest in Amelia Earhart last flight due to Robert Ballard's claim that he can find the plane.

So that got me thinking (always a bad thing!) and I found several mentions of around the world adventure in SPA but nothing about Earhart's flight.

So that idea sent me to my favorite store, pcaviator.com.
They have a very nice Lockheed Electra from JustFlight, a company with great products.
There is also "Around the world in 80 flights" from First Flight Simulation which uses an Electra as well as provides all of the waypoints.

Any thoughts from anyone about the plane and a possible "around the world Amelia tour", sans the disappearance of course! ??

Hey Philippe, yes...we actually had a pilot who had proposed this flight and was even given a special position for a group flights , but it never came to fruition. I recently looked at this flight and possibilities, as a scuba diving friend and avid wreck diver and recognized discoverer of historic shipwrecks assisted in one attempt to find the wreckage of Earhart's plane. He put on a riveting presentation of the search and his involvement.

Anyway...it remains one of the world's great mysteries. Surprisingly, another flight mystery occurring in my own 'backyard' and that of my diving friend, occurred in Lake Michigan where Northwest Flight 2501 disappeared in a thunderstorm in 1950. I highlighted this in Adventure Pack 6-3. The book referenced was my inspiration for the adventure.

Anyway, I'm certainly interested in something related to the Earhart mystery, and I'm sure other pilots might be also.

I found an interesting discussion on flightsim.com about flying the last leg of her journey to Howland Island and placing the island in FSX.

I downloaded and installed the amelia-1 file from FlightSim.com
It adds the runway as well as what I believe is the Itasca. Also, it upgrades the airport at Lae, Papa New Guinea.
I think I might try the last leg with the DC3 in FSX. I won't have enough fuel so Ill have to refuel in flight with barrels of fuel stored in cargo.

I put pics of the island as well as the airport at Lae in my pictures under the folder name "Lae and Howland."
