Ok...so this was quite an adventure. First, I might suggest that pilots use a DHC Beaver for this mission. The Kodiak's tendency to fall like a stone at low airspeed will not make a creek landing very easy. I opted to land at the mouth of Spud's Creek and water-taxi to the rescue site. This was a bit of a long taxi, but the scenic creek was worth the ride. Lots to see like deer, bear and various camp sites.

Also, it's almost impossible to take off from Wilson River Lodge without bouncing your passengers into a penalty, so that's likely an unavoidable financial hit (of course my hard water landing was something I should have been able to avoid - and would have given me a profit. Finally I had a profitable flight from the rescue scene to Alice Arm Medical Center.

As usual the RTMM scenery for this rescue mission was beautiful, and the weather was cooperating with ceiling level high enough for me to get over all but the highest mountains along the route. Most of my time was spent flying back and forth over the rescue scene looking for a place on the creek suitable for landing. I finally gave up and landed at the entrance to the creek.

edited by: jer029, Aug 15, 2019 - 02:52 PM
