Scary Pirate Bush Flight

Now this was very special: Departure in the afternoon at La Orchila (SVLO) heading to La Blanquilla (SVLB), no airport there, landed at the beach. Restarted in dusk towards Isla de la Margarita (SVMG), ILS tracking in the dark with low ceiling was fine - but there was only water. Airport flooded? Scenery download bug? Tried to reload scenery while flying didn't work, either, nearby airfield was flooded, as well.

The only remaining possibility (with limited fuel resources) was another outlanding. Luckily I found an eastbound small road in the higher parts of the island in the bushland - and the Cessna Skymaster is a good STOL aircraft if need be. Therefore my passengers and I survived. Wonder about the penalties would have been with Econ flight ...

Oswald,

If I understand what John has told me, had you been flying in Econ Mode you would have received credit for the flight, the amount depending on the quality of your landing on the road - think of it as your second "alternate". This is the case because SPAACARS does not compare where you landed with the destination you filed.

I think Oswald was just thinking about how that flight would have been in Econ Mode. Oswald is using the new SPAACARS designed for FlightGear simulator and it doesn't yet have Econ Mode functionality. That's on my 'to-do' list yet.

As for the water, I also think that's related to an issue with the auto-load scenery with the latest version of FlightGear, but it's still better than the earlier version I was working with to develop that version of SPAACARS.

Oswald, you might try jumping to the destination airport before you start your flight. In addition to ensuring there's scenery there when you arrive on your actual flight, it might also jog the simulator into downloading that scenery if it misses it during flight.

Maybe the airport was really flooded <img src="tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif" alt="wink">

Actually, I don't use Terrasync anymore, but Terramaster loading scenery in the same directory as Terrasync does. Advantage: You load beforehand and the starting of the sim is much quicker. For whatever reason in rare cases there are faults and single tiles are not loaded either way - a FG bug that isn't completely solved as I understand it. Therefore the good old rule to have an alternative remains important.

I started the sim on SVMG without new download right now, works fine. I'll go for the next waypoint and I am pretty sure that there will be scenery and airfield.
