Argh...Phone Scammers!

Ok...for the 2nd day in a row I've received a call from "Microsoft Help Tech" who informed me that my computer was infected and he was going to help me fix things. Having some extra time, I figured that this time I'd string him along a bit to see what he wanted me to do. Well...we didn't get too far. For me, I only went as far as being recommended to click the windows key and the "R" key. I asked him innocently..."but what will that do?" He replied, "Just do it and you'll find out". Ok, what kind of response is that from a "helper". I said, "No, I want to know what that will do". He said "Just do it, you're wasting my time". I said, "No...you're wasting my time...I'm a police officer and a computer tech... Click - the phone was disconnected. I guess I'm forced to suffer along with my "infected" system on my own.

While I'm sure most of our pilots wouldn't fall for such things, after all, if you can run FSX you're likely more computer savoy than these guys are, it's probably a good reminder anyway.

Oh, and by the way...the only time I've contacted help lines there was a long waiting time (if you were even allowed to have 'free help', and they otherwise informed you to click forward to the 'premium help' line and to have your credit card ready. Needless to say, any unsolicited 'help' call is a scam and should be treated as such.

Not sure why I was selected for two consecutive calls, but I do have a fairly wide virtual footprint.

For interesting reading, here's a person who played their game almost to the end. See what they did to his computer when he finally stopped the game:
