GameSpy

Jerry and I were not able to host a GameSpy session so far. I don't know why yet. We found out that turning off our firewall is not the answer to that issue. But, most firewalls should allow one to make exceptions for certain applications if we want to tunnel through.

We could join an existing session, though. Jerry joined a busy session where there was a lot of German spoken. There also were a lot of crashing aircraft, and overall chaos and mahem. I am not looking for that kind of multiplayer environment. Chaos reins in the multiplayer shoot-em-ups but that is not my style.

I learned about a web site called <a href="www.seriouspilots.com/" target="_blank">www.seriouspilots.com and thought that would be the answer. You can get into their GameSpy session by invitation only. Once in, you are given the password and can join their online session. This group sets up an open session from time to time and I joined one. The host is British and I can at least understand them. While I was flying in their open multiplayer session, I flew from Gatwick to Stanstead and then on to Paris.

On the way from Gatwick to Stanstead, one member checked me out by flying in formation with me for a while. I don't mind that, but I wish they would ask permission first. I have my realism settings turned on and don't want to be rammed or crashed.

I think that, once we have this GameSpy thing figured out, we can make use of this. I would like to set up some GameSpy sessions for St. Paul Airlines that our members can join. We can make ours a private session by requiring a password. The session password can be posted on our SPA web site for all who want to join.

Check it out. It's a lot of fun.

What do you think?
