I am interested in designing and adding buildings to the scenery in P3D. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I searched for links and found this one for starters. Click here for the link --&gt; <a title="Adding Buildings to P3D" href="prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13274">Adding Google Earth Buildings to P3D

Hey Robert, there's a number of options I guess. I've decided to go with Blender because it's freeware (for designing). As for placing them - still use Whisplacer to position them in FSX - which works for them in p3d too - you just can't place them with it - yet, but once placed in fsx, they will appear similarly placed in p3d. I haven't explored recent options there - but FSDeveloper site has a wealth of information and tools. Blender works for FSX/P3d because of addon tools developed by people there. Some of the older tools are not compatible with windows 10 system.

I use ModelConverterX (MCX) to modify and check my MDL files exported from Blender and tweak the materials. I use Library Creator to create the libraries that I can add to Whisplacer for placing the scenery. These are all freeware tools - but the learning curve can be steep and frustrating. Blender is very powerful and I'm really now just digging into it to figure out all the tools. It's not a simple process - however, Whisplacer is a good start because you can access your default fsx library and find a large selection of buildings, people and objects that you can place into various scenes - and effects too. Whisplacer creates the scenery bgl files that you can load into your sims library. All tools will probably have some type of learning curve - so pick one that's still being supported and hopefully will continue to be compatible with newer versions of p3d.

Also - SketchUp can be used to create scenery models and then exported to a dae file that can be loaded into MCX and exported as a MDL file for loading into a library and then into a scenery library. It's probably more easy to use than Blender, but I'd have to use Blender to export animations anyway - so I started with that, but often work with Skecthup objects. Note: The newest version of the free Sketchup appears to be only an online version. I opted for the 2017 version that was still a free stand-alone program. Both blender and sketchup have many tutorial utube videos to help.

Wow! This is great information. I was impressed by the ORBX airport scenery and I was wondering if that is something that I could do. Thanks.
