Help Needed with FS9

I have just had to uninstall FS9 due to an error with fs9.exe. A proper unistall couldn't be carried out due to this fault so I deleted the directories in Windows Explorer, ran registry first aid, cclean, virus scan etc etc, restarted the computer and reinstalled FS9.

Only problem now is it doesn't start. I get the opening screen, then everything goes black, a message appears on the screen "ADJUSTING", a white cursor then it drops out. I am using the original exe file and the CD. I have unistalled it again and installed to a different directory, still the same.

I am wondering now if the video card drivers need updating. I have downloaded new updated drivers, but it says to remove the existing one before installing it. I may be a little thick here, but if you do that will the graphics still work to install the new drivers??

As you can see, I'm stuck in a "black hole". Any help is very much appreciated!!

Did you just install IE7? I was reading some forum messages saying that it might be a problem for FS9.

Also, try doing a Google search about your problem. You are not alone with this issue.

Make sure you have installed all of the Microsoft upgrades and fixes for Windows.

As for the video card driver issue, you are safe to remove the old video driver first. When you boot up again after doing that, you will see that the computer is using a default video driver. It will be in low resolution mode. But, it will be good enough so you can at least install the new driver. Make sure that you have the correct driver for your video card.

After spending numerous hours searching Microsoft's knowledge base for an answer to my problem, I found it!!!

BEWARE if you are running IE7 beta 2!! It may cause FS 9 to stop working. The cure is to go to the FS 9 directory, locate and delete file "oleacc.dll". Only taken me 6 hours, and by the way, a complete FS re-install. Now the work begins to load up all the aircraft, scenery etc.

I hope this will save someone from the same heartache that I have just had. Sorry, but won't be flying this morning.

Have fun!!

Paul:
Sorry for the troubles which have come your way. Nevertheless, a great big thank you for doing the research and coming up with a solution. Most of the time when something of this nature hits me, I'm totally baffled and empty handed when it comes to an answer. Fortunately, Naresh lives only about 20 minutes from me so help comes through him.
