Thank goodness for that Ken. i've only just bought it for FS9, BUT I am now up and 'testing' FSX. Now that I have SP1 installed I am getting very similar framerates to FS9, between 8 and 20. I to can live with that, and the stutters don't seem to be nearly as bad.
BUT FSX hasn't fixed one problem that we come across down under, in Oz to be precise. Time zones!! FS9 and FSX have timezones all of there own, and try keeping to schedules when, for example, the difference in local times between Sydney and Darwin is 4 hours, but in FS9 you do it in 2 1/2 hours difference. Very frustrating, but I purchased a program called 'real time', and hey presto it fixes those problems, so I'll have to get it working with FSX.
If anyone is having trouble keeping to the times in the SPA schedules, then that could well be the problem. There is a trial version of real time available at flightsim.com, file name 'realtime.zip'. For $US10-00 it was well worth it for me.

Ken, let us know how you get on, and what you did to fix the blurries. It turns out that my graphics card isn't going to handle FSX. I get all sorts of weird 'patterned' type screens instead of scenery outside the aircraft. Maybe if I can fix the blurries they might go away and find someone else to haunt!!

Well, I finally bit the bullet and bought a new machine last week. I bought a laptop so that I could use it to fly during the summer when I am often away from home and my regular desk top machine. Naturally, I wanted something fast enough to have a chance to run FSX, but not something that would require a nearby mountain stream to cool the CPU. So, I got a Dell XPS M1710 - not a cheap machine, but less than half of Dave Raine's super computer.
I'm happy to report that I seem to be able to hold 20 FPS at KIAD with the sliders all set "medium high" and the program running in the non-windowed mode. If I go into the windowed mode or slide the airline traffic slider up to 70%, then it drops to 10-18. I have loaded SP1 and that seems to solve the frame freezes I was getting before I installed it. I'd prefer to be running 40 FPS with everything set to the max , but I guess this isn't too bad for a "portable" machine, and besides, I can use this machine to warm those cold airplane cabins.
The next step is to fix the weakest link on the machine, the RAM. I have 1 GB installed, but I've got 4 GB at home I expect to install next week or the week after.
Now to solve the problem of on-line flying under Vista/FSX.
