Airbus 318-111 Virtual Cockpit

So I downloaded the A318-111 from our aircraft fleet library. For the virtual cockpit, it points to the default A320 panel folder in FSX. Unfortunately, that doesn't work. The 2D panel comes up, but not the virtual cockpit. I copied all the A320 panel files to the A318 panel folder (instead of just having the .cfg file point to the A320 folder), but that didn't work either.

Scrounging the internet has brought a variety of results on how to do this. I've tried a few, with no success. Has anyone got this to work? I want to fly the aircraft, but not with the 2D panel. #boo

"It is quite difficult..." To quote Lloyd...So you're saying there's a chance? As long as it's doable, I'll figure it out. Just didn't want to waste my time if it can't be done. But it sounds like it can.
