My fellow SPA wing-nuts; :-D

"Sky Simulations" has a new DC9 out. At the moment it is only for FSX, but a FS9 version is coming soon.
I have it, and of course I love it, but then the old "Diesel 9" has been my favorite airliner for some time now. It has all versions of the DC9, from the -10 to the -50. After that they were called the MD series, and then the B717 (a DC9-30).
It has a few minor problems like most FS releases, but they are working on a patch. All panels are of course analog...no FMC or glass in these fine old birds. They hand fly very well, and are a joy to motor around the sky with.

Here is Sky Simulations web address:

I dislike giving a good review on any airplane for FS for fear others will expect more than they get and thus be upset. So please purchase at your own risk.

The Sky Simulations DC-9:

It hand flies very well. It is all analog.
It has a very nice 2D cockpit and a good 3D panel. Most systems are modelled...you must have the Hyd Pumps running to get flap and gear movement etc.
The exterior is one of the best I've ever seen and the company textures are excellent.

It has a few problems that Skysim says they are working on:
The AP does not capture the GS. It has a bit too much power in climb and too much drag in descent.
The -40 & -50 do not have the center fuel tank modelled. The AP does not capture altitude at the moment...you must do that manually.
It has some very nice extra graphics: a panel for opening doors / stairs / engine cowls & radome. Even the main gear doors open in "maint" mode.

It is easy to use in FS. I.E.> you build your FP (MSFS or FSC) and just load it into your session and put the AP on GPS mode and it follows it. It has an AT, but at presnt it does not work like the real one. The real one only worked in app mode. It does not have airspeed bugs yet...just the one to set AT speed with.

The biggest problem for me is: One must jump around to accomplish check-list items such as: 2D for overhead panel setup, then 3D for access to the HYD PUMPS. I open the 2D radio panel on my second monitor then open and close it when needed so has not to cover up engine instruments etc on the main monitor.

Like I said before, "I like it". If you have further questions please either post them here or email me.

I am working on an MS Excel program for fuel burn and "V" speeds for the SkySim DC9. If any of you get this airplane and want the Excel sheet just let me know and I'll email it to you.
