New Cat 1 Schedule at MSP was created by Westcoast
The Cat 1 schedule for the MSP Hub has been revised. The new schedule is intended to be more realistic and more transparent.
It will be more realistic in that it supports a true "Hub and Spoke" operation at KMSP, servicing well-established air travel markets in the Minnesota area. Inbound flights to KMSP will arrive in the morning in time to connect to longer range departures from KMSP and outbound flights will depart in the late afternoon and early evening to support longer range arrivals at KMSP. Both arrivals and departures have been timed to smooth our Cat 1-3 ground operations at the Humphrey terminal (the "H" gates), so that additional ground crews won't be required. The new schedule also includes multiple-leg flights under a single flight number. Thus our flight 1117 from Minneapolis to Rhinelander has two legs, flight 1117A from Minneapolis to Eau Claire and flight 1117B from Eau Claire to Rhinelander. If you are assigned flight 1117, you will fly the two legs on the published schedule ( 20 minute stop at Eau Claire) in a single aircraft, as a single flight assignment, logging them separately as flights 1117A and 1117B.
The schedule will be more transparent in that flights outbound (inbound) from KMSP will have odd (even) flight numbers. Sequentially numbered flights will always be continuous. That is the destination for one flight will be the origin for the next. This will eliminate the need to make non-sequentially numbered flight assignments to allow the pilot to use a single aircraft to fly his assignments without having to "dead-head" to his next departure point. Combined with a policy of assigning flights to pilots by sector, this will make it easier for new pilots assigned to the MSP Hub to minimize their commuting load and to gain familiarity with the KMSP area in an orderly fashion.
Similar modifications to our higher category schedules will be forthcoming as they are developed.
Those of you currently flying Cat 1 flights out of the MSP Hub will find that you have been assigned new flights originating at the destination of your last flight. We will be tracking schedule performance and adjusting the published schedule as required.
