Spontaneous Charter Flights

Dear EGLL hub and SPA team,

as I just happen to be in Oslo due to my last assigned flight with the Q400 and we are very close to midsummer time, it is very tempting to do some flights to northern Norway with this aircraft. I presume that quite a few Oslo tourist would be happy to go with SPA to Bodø or Tromsde.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerundeter_halbges...er_Vorderzungenvokal">ø cool

Is it possible to do a few freely planned "Charter Flights" for SPA before returning to ENGM and the next assigned flight (back to EGLL)? Just stating "Charter" instead of an IATA no.?

Oswald,

This is acceptable, but please use the "9ONLINE" IATA (flight number) for all of those flights. Originally this designation was set up for impromptu flights by people wishing to do on-line flying, but pilots have been using that designation for the purposes you describe.

Yes Oswald... that's it exactly. IATA is the flight number field described in other areas. It's a bit complicated, but I originally developed SPAACARS after the old FSACARS program that's still available here for download. My thoughts were to make it compatible for users of FSACARS here and to anyone else who happened by SPA. However, SPAACARs has taken on a life of its own and much of the antiquated FSACARS descriptions and fields never materialized into something useful...yet . Anyway, The 9ONLINE flight number designation was part of the Special Operations 'on-line' division. I just now looked to see that Yoland must have removed the entire Online flight information. Too bad - but no worries, we'll be working towards some additional online flights again too here at SPA (of course, pilots can always drop a note to invite other pilots to join them on a flight using either FSHost or JoinFS, but I'm not sure that those work with your FlightGear simulator.

Also know that I haven't forgotten your FG version and the upgrades still badly needed. I'm very sorry about the delays there, as I've gotten very busy with personal things and other development projects here at SPA that have taken precedence. I don't believe I'll ever be able to devote the time to learn scenery development for FlightGear sim, as It's all I can do to fumble my way through the FSX/P3d scenes I put together. The enhancements to your version that would be relatively easy would be the sounds - crew announcements, and passenger screams if you make crazy g-force changes - but then I'm back to getting the g-force thing to work, which I will need to start researching again because I've forgotten most all of my FlightGear stuff. Still, If we can get most of that working, you can probably participate in the econ flights too - even if you won't be able to enjoy the optional scenery I'm adding to the latest Juneau Group-2 flights.

Anyway...just go ahead and fly your desired flights and use 9ONLINE as the flight number (IATA field in SPAACARS), and if you have any other problems or questions, my email door is always open...although I might be sleeping at my desk most of the time you're awake.
