The idea with Bush Ops is to fly VFR and enjoy the scenery. With that in mind how is it possible to find the Lowest Safe Altitude for each leg?

You will need the VFR sectionals in the US. They will give you the terrain height and the heights of obstructions like transmission towers and tall buildings. In the US the minimum VFR altitude is 500 feet above obstructions, clear of clouds, and at least three statute miles visibility.

You make a good point Warren. I am doing the Andes flights in South America and have not been able to find a good source of VFR charts. The links to world charts on our website takes you to a page with a lot of broken links, including (at least) those for both Columbia and Ecuador. Likewise a cursory on-line search for south american topographical maps has only yielded very large scale maps which are not adequate for flight purposes. The best i have been able to do is to use the map feature available in FSX. It provides colorcoded terrain maps. They are good enough for avoiding the highest peaks, but they don't seem to have a calibrated scale. So, it's important to have good enough weather to be able to see the terrain, or else you're likely to run into it.

Thanks for the tip Mike. Are the maps in FS9 good enough as well?

I haven't run FS9 recently, so I don't know.
