Please join me in congratulating Terry Garner on his (belated) promotion to Second Officer. Terry passed the 60 Hr mark some time ago, but it seems his Hub Manager was asleep at the switch (again). You guys just gotta quit flying so much; "senior management" (and, boy, I'm senior) can't seem to keep up.

Good going Terry. Let's see if I can catch the next one.

Mike,

Thanks for the promotion. It may not be timely but I certainly appreciate the chance to fly different aircraft and routes. Flying for SPA is certainly enjoyable which is why many of us can't stop. If I could put a device on my tractor I would probably fly nonstop.

Thanks Again!

Congrats Terry,

Yes, it's great to have the additional variety of aircraft to fly. Surprisingly I find myself often back in the smaller planes for low and slow flights where I can actually see the scenery. Still, it's nice to have the choice.

Choosing some earlier vintage aircraft that are in your category can be fun to fly because they aren't equipped with the mounted GPS - not available back then, so you have to fly VOR to VOR like Mike and I have been doing with the bush aircraft recently.

These other planes, like the DC-9 which would be Cat-3, fly much faster than the bush planes, making it even more challenging to juggle your navigational duties, but it's great fun to see your airport appear without following a GPS line all the way. This is especially true in IFR condition when flying a DME approach plate. It's hard to trust that chart when you can't see out your window and have to go by faith in your instruments that at x distance from y VOR you can descend to z altitude without running into anything :-O .

edited by: jer029, Mar 05, 2016 - 06:57 AM

John,

Thanks for your congratulation. I whole hardheartedly agree with you concerning flying earlier vintage aircraft. Instead of using aircraft from the jet age, why not fly the old recips that are rarely seen outside of museums.

Flying aircraft like the twin-Beach, the DC line (2,3,4,6) the Lockheed Electra, and the most beautiful aircraft ever created,in my opinion, the Lockheed Constellation can be great fun. I know many people who would like to relive that experience. The SPA management team may want to explore adding a new Special Operations division that would use these vintage aircraft for both passenger and freight operations.

Thanks Again,

Terry
