Yesterday evening it was noted that PIREP filing was not working. Upon further checking I noted that the site has intermittent database connectivity problems. I've been in contact with the webhosting service and Naresh regarding the issues and we are working on solving them.

Please be patient and save your PIREPs for posting when this issue is resolved. We will keep you advised regarding this issue.

Thanks,

Update: It appears that this is likely a server issue with the webhosting company, not a problem with our site. I'll continue trying to work with them on improving consistency of connection.

Pilots should continue to file their PIREPs as they normally do. In the event that you have an issue, you may have to repeat your filing attempt. Always check to see if it's in your flight log before attempting to resend it.

Thanks,

John

Problems continue and web service has been slow to respond (disappointing). I've downloaded everything to my local server and all works there without the intermittent errors.

My suggestions are as follows that will minimize problems until we get things smoothly operating again:

Keep PIREP information for manual entry in the event you can't get through with ACARS after several tries.

Log onto site with IE rather than firefox or other browser if they are really problems. For some reason IE deals with the connectivity issue better than firefox, and - if problems during connect in IE, repeat hits of the 'reload' button will bring up the desired page.

I'm sure you are aware of this, but at the moment there are 937 bots crawling the site, when there should be 20 to 30 at most. This is most likely what is causing the intermittant connection problems. Just a thought.

Hello RoBear,

Yes - we're aware and think it's the problem - but actual outside connections to the server are less than 20. Trying to resolve this now - might have to shut the site down for 24 hours and clear the bottleneck. Giving the host provider techs another stab at it first.

Thanks Yoland, but we've made some progress and connections have improved.

No shutdown planned for now. Pilots should be able to file PIREPS as normal. Please send me emails of problems. Please include whether it's through ACARS, and if with manual - please include browser type.

Thanks,

John
