That is too funny!
Good thing I had Japanese tourists on board.
However, I will have to go back and familiarize myself with those landmarks as next time I may have some local yokels and they would not be so happy when I tell them that your little waterfall is called Niagara.

Philippe721:
Nice job on John`s landmark tour Philippe. Nice pics. l found it a little more challenging using a helicopter for the flight mission. l tried a couple times to do it without a flight plan but, was unable to find some of landmarks while trying to fly and keep my helicopter straight and level, not mentioning zigzagging back and forth. So, to help me along, l made myself a short flight plan, so l wouldn`t be distracted from actually flying the helicopter. Another concern was, with 5 passengers on board and with a maximum of 66% of fuel in the tanks, on a 360 nm flight, would l make it back without running out of fuel? But at the end l had 18% left. l thought l was doing ok at the last airport coming down for the landing but, the helicopter nosed up, my reaction to push down on the "Yoke", not flightstick, and hit the ground a little harder than l thought. Besides that, l think l did alright. Now that l`m a little more comfortable with the helicopter operation, l might use it in some of my Misty Mooring flights. Thanks for the experience on finding`s those landmarks John, drove me crazy at the beginning but would do it again on another one of your mission.

Thanks Larry.
Funny you mentioned helicopter. I thought it would be fun to land inside Fort Snelling. I am pretty good with the chopper but every time I tried it crashed.
Then, thinking it would make a cool pic, I went to Split Rock Lighthouse and tried there but it also crashed.
I finally concluded that it must have something to do with the add-on scenery.
I could have removed the "crash into object" option in FSX but what is the fun in that.
Incidentally for those who just want to quickly check the lighthouse and the tanker in the lake by it, you can just depart from KBFW. It's only 2 minutes from it.
Thanks John,
when I flew over Minneapolis and changed the scenery to winter the temperature in my room went down 40 degrees....LOL

edited by: philippe721, Oct 19, 2019 - 08:16 PM

Hey Philippe,
All of my scenery will probably result in "plane crash" when contacted because I've not added extra modification to the default models to prevent crash detection. I don't fly with crash detection anymore myself because lots of other scenery developers - including FTX/Central I think, has areas that cause crashes. This became particularly frustrating when taxiing down the taxiway at Hibbing or International Falls and suddenly "crashing". Apparently there was something invisible there that triggered a crash.
Also...when flying multiplayer flights, which I do regularly once a week, a few of the pilots have the nasty habit of flying into and through your plane. This would cause me to "crash", even though they flew into me. They would go on their merry way while I waited for my simulator to reset and then had to find the current location of everyone again.
It was easier just to turn off crash detection and enjoy the scenery and the flight.
Maybe things have improved with FTX with their global/vector that might have removed the hidden objects causing crashes. It was some time ago that I had experienced this. If so, then all I have to do is convince other pilots to stop flying or taxiing through my plane.
