Bush flight Nepal - very adventorous

... and a bit scary. A few airport in remote regions of Nepal are somewhat misplaced, so is VNJL (Jumla) in a side valley. By the way: I learned in the FG forum that X-Plane gateway is the data base for the Flightgear Scenery.

After a few trainings on the spot I grabbed my PC-6 at the starting point (Sukhet), cautiously got only one passenger and not very much cargo in and flew to Jumla, finally diving into the deeply engraved airfield (see images). The landing looked much worse than the landing rate measured by SPACAARS suggests, landing gear managed, cargo isn't broken and my passenger recovered quickly. Next challenge: starting from there! Good training for the PC-6 ...

Hah Oswald,

Coincidentally, Larry (Airhogg) and I were just talking about Lukla airport that's part of that Bush Operation. Aerosoft has some great scenery for Lukla - but it's not P3dv4 compatible - even though it says it now has a compatible installer! So - P3dv4 pilots should use care before buying and installing that scenery.

The scenery addon looks like it will really add to the enjoyment of that flight group, so I'll wait for the P3d version before trying that flight group, but it's one of those on my 'to-do' list.

Has anyone of you SPA pilots experience with the Nepal tour? It remains to be a challenge, I have to check and practice every airfield in advance due to surprises in FG scenery (some have unexpected obstacles slap in the middle of the runway). How reliable are the airports in the scenery of other simulators? Which aircraft have you taken?

If you happen to have done the tour in the Econ mode, have you been successful in terms of earning at least some money? Due to not being able to load full payload in the Nepal heights with small airfields, and sometimes penalties for hard landing or g-force, in my experience there is not much to get out of the flights in economical terms. But much fun !!! Thanks to Yoland for planning this tour.

By the way I learned from reading in the net that real airlines also have difficulties to run their services in Nepal without major deficits - due to the same reasons.

Oswald's observations about the Nepal flights being a tough place to earn a profit using the Econ mode are spot on. You can't carry a full load to high altitude and expect to be able to make a good, or even a safe, landing because of the stall characteristics of heavily loaded aircraft. So real airlines operating under these conditions have to respond by raising their ticket prices accordingly. The 2018 Econ II model does offset this effect to some extent by boosting ticket and cargo prices for very light aircraft, but probably not enough to make a flight into Lukla profitable.

Hi Yoland,
there is no need to rush, personally, I like the challenge, this does indeed include the econ mode for the flights. There are easier flights going not very high and with easier accessible airfields that give quite good rewards.

In flightgear scenery, everything depends on the action of voluntary action. The U.K. for instance is very well developed, scenery and airfields, so are many places in the U.S. and Germany, and France etc. It depends on people wanting to develop their favorite flight area, I guess. With every new flightgear update, the home airport changes after a vote in the forum and is further developed by a scenery update team. Nepal like many other regions is a bit off the road, therefore I won't find villages near the airfields, but beautiful mountain scenery. And that is what I am looking for in Nepal.

Actually my PC-6 flights in Nepal are meant to be a training for the Highest Peaks Tour, as well. Beforehand, I have to get better control of that aircraft, I won't get my otherwise favorite Cessna 337 or anything else in the FG world in high altitudes and on small airfields.

Hello Mike,
the current econ mode appears to be quite reasonable: If I don't make severe mistakes, at least I get a little plus out of the flights with the PC-6.
