Hi,

I recently purchased FSX from Steam. I have never used a flight sim before, so I am a total noob in the whole affair.
I tried to connect my FSX to VatSim, but without success... For vPilot I get the error message that SimConnect is not installed, with Squawkbox the option to launch it in the game is missing.
Yoland was so kind to provide me with a download link for fsuipc, but that didn't resolve the issue, either.
Can someone help me?

Thank you very much!

Mike

Yeah, that was my bad- I thought it worked as the add-on option appeared in the task bar, but that was for fsuipc only- it did not include an option to connect to VatSims.
Does fsuipc need to be registered to work?

FSUIPC should work unregistered, but certain features will only be available with the registered version. So the answer is "it depends". I'm not sure about the interaction with Steam FSX.

I was just wondering if I need it to get Squawkbox to work or if it can connect to VatSim by itself.

From what I read - no to squawkbox. but Vpilot is the successful alternative see this link:

I might make a shameless plug for our Multiplayer flights (see the post for this Sunday's flight). We offer a multiplayer flight with other pilots (no ATC - but also without the expectation of fastidious attention to communication and flight protocol). But you also won't get scolded if you make mistakes like can happen with vatsim.

For our flight you only need to be able to connect on line with your simulator and run TeamSpeak for voice communication.

You can test out your connectivity with the server address listed in the multiplayer section anytime so that you're sure it works for an upcoming flight.
